On August 10, 2026, Safe Harbor announced an agreement to acquire MarineMax in an all-cash transaction valued at $1.5 billion. If the deal closes as planned later this year, MarineMax would become part of the Safe Harbor organization, owned by Blackstone Infrastructure since April 2025.
This is a significant ownership change story for recreational boaters. It's not yet a completed transaction - or proof that any particular marina's rates, transient availability, staffing or local character is changing.
No recreational boater experiences marinas by looking at abstract corporate charts. You experience it in the slip assigned at the end of a long weather day, at a fuel dock, pump out station or repair yard. It's only natural to wonder, is the price I'm used to paying per night changing?
on the record - what we can learn from public filings
The joint announcement detailed as $53 per share cash price at a total deal value of $1.5b including debt. The board of directors for MarineMax approved the transaction unanimously. While the total deal still requires shareholder approval, along with the expiration of the federal antitrust waiting period, the companies said they expect to close the transaction by the end of 2026. A series of fallback dates exists into 2027 as customary in transactions of this size and scope.
what's joining together?
Safe Harbor, founded in Dallas, TX in 2016 was itself purchased by Private Equity firm Blackstone Infrastructure in April 2025. At the time, Blackstone described Safe Harbor as "the largest marina and super yacht servicing business in the United States", they currently operator 138 marinas across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
With MarineMax added into the fold, another 65 marinas and storage facilities, along with some 70 dealerships will become part of Safe Harbor's combined network. There are other businesses as well - MarineMax operates IGY Marinas, Fraser, Northrop & Johnson, MarineMax Vacations, various finance and insurance offerings as well as service operations.
We're talking about a lot more than some additional slips under one corporate umbrella. This transaction combines a major marina network with a boating company that touches everything from sales, service, storage, charter, brokerage and destination-marina operations.

- Stuart: Safe Harbor Harborage Yacht Club in Stuart, FL is one of several places where the question is not only "will rates rise" - but if a boater's access to a reliable service and stopover option changes over time with proximity to Okeechobee.
- Pickwick: Safe Harbor Aqua Yacht is a well known inland river stop.

Key details any captain wants to know are not yet announced:
- transient dockage rates
- monthly, seasonal, or annual slip rates
- transient-slip inventory or reservation policy
- Safe Harbor membership terms and benefits
- staffing or local-management changes
- service yard capacity and scheduling
- capital improvements at individual marinas
- changes to local brands, amenities, or customer policies.
The absence of news here doesn't mean changes are not coming, or answer the questions we all have about what's next. It's factually important to identify what has and has not been announced as the deal is still pending approval and finalization.

The proposed transaction is important because it places a broader share of the boating experience under related ownership: marinas, storage, service, sales, charter, brokerage and destination operations.
For a captain planning this season or the next, the practical advice is simple: verify the specific marina, ask about your specific stay. Don't make a reservation decision based on the rumors circulating online.
